About OPEX Maturity Assessments
The OPEX Maturity Assessment Dashboard is designed to help organizations evaluate and track their operational excellence journey across multiple dimensions including Leadership, Strategy, Business Benefits, People, Culture, Performance, Process, and Customer Focus & Value Stream. This dashboard is based on Prof. Sanjay Bhasin‘s operational excellence framework, developed in collaboration with the International Lean Six Sigma Institute (ILSSI).

- Track maturity levels across 8 operational excellence dimensions
- Monitor assessment progress by employee and department
- Visualize maturity evolution over time
- Generate comprehensive reports with key findings and recommendations
- Compare performance across departments and seniority levels
Step 1: Prepare Your Excel Files
Start by organizing your assessment data in Excel files following these structures:
⚠️ Do not rename the column headers. Altering them may break the dashboard functionality.
1.1 Main Assessment Data File
Required Columns for “opex_assessment_data_v2“:
- Title – Employee name who completed the assessment
- Date – Date when the assessment was completed
- Dimension – OPEX dimension being assessed (Leadership, Strategy, Business Benefits, People, Culture, Performance, Process, Customer Focus & Value Stream)
- Question – The specific question being answered
- Score – Numerical score (0-5 scale)
- Comment – Additional comments or observations

1.2 Complete OPEX Maturity Assessment File
Required Columns for “complete_opex_maturity_assessment“:
- Title – Dimension name (Leadership, Strategy, etc.)
- Maturity_Level – Current maturity level (1-5: Unaware, Uncommitted, Initiated, Improving, Fully Mature)
- Description – Detailed description of the current state
- Key_Finding_1 – First key finding from the assessment
- Key_Finding_2 – Second key finding from the assessment
- Key_Finding_3 – Third key finding from the assessment
- Recommendation_1 – First recommendation for improvement
- Recommendation_2 – Second recommendation for improvement
- Recommendation_3 – Third recommendation for improvement

1.3 Employee Information File
Required Columns for “Employee” table:
- Employee name – Full name of the employee
- Department – Department or team the employee belongs to
- Seniority – Seniority level (Team Members, Managers, Executives, etc.)

Step 2: Import Your Data to Microsoft Lists
Microsoft Lists Overview:
Microsoft Lists is a SharePoint-based platform that allows organizations to track and manage information through imported Excel data. This platform is essential for setting up the OPEX Maturity Assessment application.

Access Microsoft Lists:
- Sign in to your Office 365 account
- Open the “Lists” app from the App launcher
Create New Lists:
2.1 Create Main Assessment Data List
- Click on “New list” in Microsoft Lists
- Select “Import from Excel” as your data source
- Upload your prepared “
opex_assessment_data_v2” Excel file - Verify column mappings:
Important Column Type Changes:
- Change ‘Comment’ column to ‘Multiple lines of text’ Type
- Change ‘Date’ column to ‘Date and Time’ Type
- Change ‘Dimension’ column to ‘Choice’ Type with options:
- Leadership
- Strategy
- Business Benefits
- People
- Culture
- Performance
- Process
- Customer Focus
- Change ‘Score’ column to ‘Number’ Type
- Keep ‘Title’ column as ‘Single line of text’
- Keep ‘Question’ column as ‘Multiple lines of text’
- Click “Next”
- Choose where to save your list
- Name must match exactly

2.2 Create Complete OPEX Maturity Assessment List
- Click on “New list” in Microsoft Lists
- Select “From Excel” as your data source
- Upload your “
complete_opex_maturity_assessment” Excel file - Verify column mappings:

- Click “Next”
- Choose where to save your list
- Name must match exactly

2.3 Create Employee List
- Click on “New list” in Microsoft Lists
- Select “From Excel” as your data source
- Upload your “Employee” Excel file
- Verify column mappings:
Important Column Type Changes:
- Keep ‘
Employee name‘ as ‘Single line of text’ - Change ‘
Department‘ column to ‘Choice’ Type (add your organization’s departments) - Change ‘
Seniority‘ column to ‘Choice’ Type with options:- Executives
- Managers
- Teams Members
- Click “Next”
- Choose where to save your list
- Name must match exactly
Employee - Click “Create”

2.4 Create Dashboard Users List
- Click on “New list” in Microsoft Lists
- Select “Blank list” as your data source
- Name it “
Users Dashboard Table“ - Add a column named “
User” with type “Person” - Enable “Show profile photos”
- Add each user who will access the dashboard

⚠️ Important: All Microsoft Lists must reside under the same SharePoint site URL for proper connectivity.

Step 3: Install the OPEX Maturity Assessment Dashboard App
Access Power BI Service:
- Log in to your Power BI account
- Navigate to the “Apps” section from the left-side menu
Get the App:
- Click on “Get apps” and search for “OPEX Maturity Assessment Dashboard”
- Click “Get it now” to install the app in your workspace
Step 4: Connect to Your Data
Launch the App:
- Open the installed app from your Power BI workspace
- You will be prompted to connect to your Microsoft Lists
Parameter Configuration:
SharePoint URL Parameter:
- Enter the URL that links directly to your Microsoft Lists site
- This URL must match exactly with the one used when creating the lists
Assessment Data List Name:
- Enter “
opex_assessment_data_v2” (must match exactly)
Complete Assessment List Name:
- Enter “
complete_opex_maturity_assessment” (must match exactly)
Employee List Name:
- Enter “
Employee” (must match exactly)
Users List Name:
- Enter “
Users Dashboard Table” (must match exactly)
Authentication:
- Enter your Outlook Email Address
- Select OAuth2 as the authentication method
- Choose “Organizational” as the Privacy Level
- Click “Sign in and connect”
Data Loading:
Once connected, the app will begin loading your OPEX maturity assessment data. This process may take a few moments depending on data volume.
Step 5: Explore the Dashboard
Dashboard Features:
Maturity Overview:
- Visual representation of current maturity levels across all 8 dimensions
- Color-coded maturity indicators (Red: Unaware, Orange: Uncommitted, Yellow: Initiated, Light Green: Improving, Dark Green: Fully Mature)
- Overall organizational maturity score
Assessment Progress Tracking:
- Timeline view of assessments completed over time
- Department-wise assessment completion rates
- Individual employee assessment history
Detailed Analysis:
- Key findings and recommendations display
- Comparative analysis across departments and seniority levels
Interactive Features:
- Filter by department, seniority, date range, or specific dimensions
- Hover tooltips showing detailed information
Reporting Capabilities:
- Automated insight generation
- Export capabilities for detailed reports
- Scheduled refresh for real-time data updates
Troubleshooting
Connection Issues:
If you encounter issues connecting to your SharePoint Lists:
- Verify your credentials are accurate
- Ensure you have necessary permissions in Office 365
- Check that all lists are in the same SharePoint site
Parameter Errors:
If the app doesn’t accept your parameters:
- Double-check SharePoint URL accuracy
- Verify list names match exactly (case-sensitive)
- Ensure all required lists exist and contain data
Data Loading Issues:
If data doesn’t load properly:
- Check column mappings in Microsoft Lists
- Verify data types are set correctly
- Ensure no required fields are empty

Appendix: OPEX Maturity Levels Reference
Level 1 – Unaware
Basic understanding of operational excellence benefits with willingness to embed OPEX, but no clear goals, coherent plan, or structure in place.
Level 2 – Uncommitted
Some OPEX work commenced within pilot areas but plans lack detail and don’t consider interdependencies. No indication of organizational expansion.
Level 3 – Initiated
Initial pilot areas making reasonable progress with isolated tools and methodologies established within separate operational areas.
Level 4 – Improving
Pilot areas proven successful with clear recognition that OPEX assists productivity. Large organizational parts assimilated with good advancement.
Level 5 – Fully Mature
OPEX ideology embedded as principle of everyday working with pursuit for continuous improvement. OPEX ingrained as part of organizational vision.
